Navan u-16 girls rugby focus

Navan u-16 girls enjoyed a good campaign in the Leinster u-16 Premier 2 and they recorded a fine 33-17 win against Westmanstown in their last game while at the weekend they received a walkover from Tullow

Against Westmanstownthe Meath girls started well and Ellen Birmingham surged up the wing to dot down between the posts for a converted try..

Another few phases and then its back out to the wing and this time Sasha Guirey is under the posts for her third try in three games with Ellen converted bringing her tally against Westmanstown this season to 35 points.

Leah Morris won two penalties at the ruck taking some pressure off Navan but eventually Westmanstown scored a converted try.This only spurred Navan on and they worked their way back up the pitch with Ciara Rennie and Lauren Fitzpatrick spoiling the Westmanstown line-outs. 

To finish the half Rosie Searle scored her first try of the day to leave it 19 - 7 in Navan’s favour.

Westmanstown were first to score in the second-half bringing them to within five points, but once again, this just spurred Navan on with another try from Rosie Searle inside three minutes. 

This time ice-cool Abby Moyles popped it over for the extras and a 26-12 advantage but Westmanstown showed great spirit and scored again (26-17).

The last play of the day is what coaches dream about and Navan forwards managed to turnover the ruck. 

Jade Gaffney out to Leah Morris, then on to Steffi Finnegan who found space behind and put boot to ball. 

Westmanstown got to the ball first but Sarah Leonard didn’t break her stride and wiped out the defender for cleanout of the season. 

Rosie Searle picked the loose ball and scored her third try of the day earning her “player of the match”- the try was converted easily by Abby Moyles.
