Hector to host Tidy Towns summit

Hector O hEochagain is set to host the 'Better Links, Stronger Communities' Tidy Towns Conference on Saturday 2nd February in the Knightsbrook Hotel, Trim.

The conference is a joint initiative by eight county councils in the east midlands region to combine resources and deliver a suite of speakers that will address and advise on the tidy towns competition.
There will be experienced Tidy Towns judges including Sharon Eastwood, biologist and co-director of Woodrow Environmental Consultants who will give advice on how to “catch the eye” of the adjudicator.
Billy Flynn, ecologist and co-director of Flynn-Furney Environmental Consultants will advise on plants that will enhance the biodiversity while Debbie Nesbitt, chartered waste manager and chartered environmentalist will tackle the topic of sustainability.
Juanita Brown from the National Biodiversity Data Centre will be present to discuss the National Pollinator Plan and Billy Houlihan, retired Cork county architect and adjudicator will advise on streetscapes and how to manage derelict sites.
“Representatives from Listowel TidyTowns, who were last year’s winners, will be on hand to discuss their success in the competition. This is very valuable advice for the many would be winners in County Meath, who are in the running for the top spot, including Trim itself’, stated Bernadine Carry, Meath County Council.
Lunch will be provided and groups will have the opportunity to meet other like-minded people who have a vision and Hosta desire for their town or village.
Following lunch, there are six ten minute sessions. This quick-fire round of speakers will address topics including climate change, responsible dog ownership, individual projects carried out by communities on a county basis, smart buildings, how to work with your local heritage officer and what to do to form stronger communities.
This event is part of the Council’s Environmental Awareness Programme to support local Tidy Towns Groups and to help them to succeed on the National stage

Tickets cost €4.99 each and are available on www.eventbrite.ie.
