No new year joy for Athboy as they lose to Roscrea

Athboy shipped another defeat in the Rugby Leinster League Div 3 when they lost 0-45 to Roscrea at Athboy today.

The home side, who are struggling to pick up wins, were in trouble at the break when they trailed 0-24 and despite exerting dominance in the scrum they were unable to get through the Roscrea defence.

Roscrea, who are looking to win automatic promotion from the division, engineered touchdowns scored by Michael Maher (two), Seamus Treacy, Michael Treacy, Paddy Walsh, John Carter  and Enda Maher with Sam Queally addinig a series of conversions.

Athboy were short of numbers for this game with coach Owen Kerrane pressed into action in the second-half for his first appearance of the season.

The home side tried hard despite facing mounting odds with Tyron Pretorius impressing for them with a number of surging forward runs.

Made up of players from a wide area that extends from Trim to Clonmellon Athoby are looking to build a new team for the future.
