Trim Drama's View from The Bridge

Trim Drama Group is gearing up for its autumn 2018 production, Arthur Miller’s 'A View From The Bridge' - a classic tale of love, obsession, jealousy and betrayal.
Set in 1950s Brooklyn among Italian immigrants living in the shadow of the famous Brooklyn Bridge, and narrated by Alfieri an Italian American lawyer, the story centres on Eddie Carbone, a longshoreman, and his family – his wife Beatrice and his niece Catherine, who are joined by his wife’s cousins, brothers Marco and Rodolpho, who have come to live with them and work illegally in America. Eddie soon begins to resent the presence of the younger Rodolpho and his developing closeness with Catherine, and his jealousy pushes him to edge of the boundaries of honour in this gripping family drama.
The large cast has some well known Trim Drama Group actors, and also some new faces to the Trim stage – the part of Eddie is played by Niall Fagan, who will be well known to Trim audiences, as will his wife Beatrice who is played by Patricia Hehir, Catherine the young niece is played by Emma Thornton, another fine TDG actor, Marco is played by Shane Fox, well known to both Trim Drama and Musical audiences, while newcomer Tadhg Mulvey will play Rodolfo, in his stage debut.

Narrator Alfieri is played by longstanding TDG actor, Aidan Mitchell - using his real accent! – while Eddies’ friends, Mike and Louis are played by Stephen O’Connor and Mark Barry respectively, and finally the cast is completed by three well known Trim Drama Group actors Craig Regan and Kevin Martin, as immigration officers, and Tony, a local ‘fixer’ played by Kevin Shelly.
“I’ve always loved Miller as a playwright from an early age - he deals with real issues and complex human problems in a frank and open manner. He doesn’t shy away from things which are rarely spoken about,” says director, Brendan Fox, who has previously directed several productions for Trim Drama Group, including Death of a Salesman, another Miller classic, and Brendan is joined by assistant director, longtime TDG actor Dara Kenny in his first time on the other side of the curtain.

“In this play Miller deals with familial love turning to sexual obsession, honour in family and in community and finally betrayal which brings the world of this family crashing down, all played out like a Greek tragedy.
We have found the emotional content of the play, challenging to both the actors and this director and we are really enjoying the process of dealing with such a brilliant script. I love how Miller shows us all the different sides of a family, using it as a way to manifest a huge range of human actions and emotions. The content of this play, both politically and emotionally, is as relevant today as it was when it was first performed in the 1950s, unfolding before the audience and bringing them right into the story.”

The production runs from Wednesday 31st October until Saturday 3rd November inclusive, and takes place in Scoil Mhuire Trim, 8pm nightly – tickets are available on the door, and we recommend booking with James Allen Hair Design Trim 046 9437500 – tickets are €15 and Concessions are €10.
