Heartbreak for St Michael's

St Michael's brave bid to replicate the All-Ireland winning achievements of Dunboyne ended in disappointment at Carlanstown this evening as they were beaten 1-9 to 2-14 by Offaly senior champions Naomh Ciaran in the Ladies Leinster IFC semi-final.

Playing with the advantage of a strong wind in the opening period St Michael's recovered from an early deficit with Megan O'Brien's brilliant goal pushing them into a 1-5 to 0-3 lead.

Howeverseven minutes before the break Naomh Ciaran grabbed a goal against both the wind and the run of play and even though Marion Farrelly responded with two late points St Michael's half-time advantage was just 1-7 to 1-3.

That lead was wiped out within six minutes of the restart as as Kate Kenny led the Naomh Ciaran charge with a fine goal.

Kenny finished with 1-7 to her credit as St Michael's struggled in the second-half and added just two points as the Offaly side advanced.
