North Meath shape up for trip to Athboy next

North Meath made it three wins from three in the Leinster League Div 3 following an impressive 49-19 win against  Dublin Dogos at the Grange, Kells on Sunday.

A man-of-the-match performance from Michael McNamee in this, his first season of senior rugby, helped secure the bonus point victory which sent North Meath to the top of table.

North Meath started well and were 21-0 up inside 20 minutes thanks partly to tries from Eanna Finn, Eric Szymanski and Ben Traynor.

Two more tries were added before half-time. McNamee finished off a fluid backs' move and Adrian Sheridan showed a clean set of heels to the Dogos’ full back before touching down.

However, some ill-discipline and sloppy passing let the Dublin Dogos in for a try before half-time.

North Meath’s poor discipline continued after the interval and it was not until deep into the second-half that another try, the best of the game, was added.

A midfield break from McNamee allowed Kevin Dowds to offload to Traynor for his second and then Szymanski charged down a kick to score in the corner.

During the course of the game Traynor also added six conversions while Joe Carry slotted over another.

Dublin Dogos added two late tries, but the home team's dominance was never seriously threatened.

A positive aspect is that a fully stocked bench of replacements has provided a competition for places so critical for any team.

In addition to McNamee’s impressive showing, there were some forceful carries from Andrew Dowds, Theo Chamberlayne-Daye and Chris McCartan impressive.

Next up for North Meath is a trip to local rivals Athboy on Sunday.
