Conor Tormey presented the trophy to the Donaghmore / Ashbourne captain

Unlucky Simonstown edged out

A late flourish by Donaghmore / Ashbourne secured a 2-14 to 2-13 B FL Div 1 final victory at Skryne last night.

Don/Ash were four points down with two minutes remaining and Simonstown can rue missed opportunities in the first-half and some loose passing in the final moments of the game.

Simonstown opened the game with a well taken James Heaney point. Simonstown added to their tally with a marvelous free from distance by Micky Brennan. The first 15 minutes resembled a basketball match with both teams exchanging scores.

Halfway through the second-half Simonstown were rewarded their first of two penalties which Micky Brennan took with aplomb.

The Navan men immediately added to their goal tally with an excellent finish from James Heaney.

The Gaels looked in charge and the trophy looked destined to be going up Flower Hill especially when Simonstown were awarded their second penalty of the game. Micky Brennan stepped up again but his effort was expertly saved from the Ashbourne stopper.

This goal would have made it a six point game going into the final three minutes.

However, Simonstown responded with a Seamus Kenny point which widened the gap to four points going into the final two minutes.

Don/Ash were inspired by the penalty save and they got a goal and point to level and won the final kick out of the game and Andy Tormey dispatched his shot over the bar.

Conor Tormey presented the B League trophy to Ashbourne's winning captain.
