Gaeil Colmcille advance to face Dunboyne

Gaeil Colmcille advanced to the SFC quarter-finals tonight when they survived a stern second-half Wolfe Tones revival to win by 3-13 to 1-13.

Goals were crucial in the outcome and Gaeil Colmcille had three on board in the opening half starting with a fifth minute penalty converted by Brian Hanlon (see video clip).

fFIFTH MINUTE PENALTY GOAL FOR GAEIL COLMCILLE

Fionn Reilly scored the first of his two goals in the 12th minute and another in the 23rd minute and that helped his side to a 3-8 to 1-5 interval advantage.

Cian Ward found the net for the Tones who gave it a good go in the second-half and got the deficit down to four points (1-13 to 3-11) as the clock ticked into six minutes of added time.

That was as good as it got for the Tones who, like Gaeil Colmcille, had players on IHC duty last Saturday.

The Tones will go to Skryne tomorrow night for a JFC preliminary quarter-final tie against Dunsany while Gaeil Colmcille will return to SFC action on Sunday against Dunboyne.

"The six-day turnaround is a problem, but we will just have to get on with it," stated Gaeil Colmcille manager Lar Wall who may
have to plan without Seamus Mattimoe who picked up an injury.
