Remembering Hollow Lane on screen

The Hollow Lane in Cross, near Mullagh, Co Cavan, was once a hive of activity with up to 26 families living and working on the lane. It is since depopulated but the stories about the lane and some of its characters are still going strong, held tight in the hearts and imaginations of the remaining former residents.

The idea to make a film came about once local filmmaker Siún O Connor met with the Hollow Lane Golden Way Action Group. Interested in highlighting forgotten Ireland, having just made a film about walking from Mornington to the Cliffs of Moher, this project resonates strongly. Impressed by the tireless efforts of the Cross Community Group in helping preserve their local social history, she went about seeking funding to document their efforts.

Siún commented: “I’m delighted to have been given the opportunity to make something that will last for this community, which values its social history and sees the importance of preservation for future generations.”

The film was funded under the European Year of Cultural Heritage. #MakeAConneciton. It will screen during Heritage Week on Friday 24th  August at 7pm in Cross Hall. All are welcome
