O'Rourke points Skryne to final victory

Nine points from Paddy O'Rourke were crucial as Skryne got their hands on the A FL Div 1 Mooney Cup in Pairc Tailteann this evening.

Skryne got the better of Gaeil Colmcille with a 0-19 to 1-13 victory, but it was only when they went down to 14 men 10 minutes from time that they took a serious grip on the game.

That incident that saw Robbie Clarke depart on a second yellow card after he gave away a penalty which Brian Hanlon converted as Gaeil Colmcille closed the gap to the minimum (1-12 to 0-16).

However, the Kells side didn't score again until hanlon converted a fee in added time and O'Rourke eased Skryne into the comfort zone with three of those nine points in the closing six minutes.

Skryne started the first-half well and were ahead by two points at the interval as they established a 0-10 to 0-8 advantage with some excellent points from play.

Paddy Fox sent over two of those points and that was augmented by fine scores from play by Donie Ryan, Conor O'Brien, Dara Campion and Ian Davis while Paddy O'Rourke also obliged from play and added one '45' and one free to his side's tally.

Gaeil Colmcille palyed in fits and starts - a good opening and a good closing with a little bit of drifting in between.

Four Seamus Mattimoe points (two) frees, two from Brian Hanlon (one free) and one each by Martin Barrett and Oisin Reilly left them well in contention for the second-half, but they were unable to deliver on this occasion.

The teams will play again at the weekend in the SFC.
