Feile kicks off at venues throughout Meath

One of the biggest tournaments in the GAA - the Feile Peile Na nOg - kicked off at venues throughout Meath today.

Games in the competition that involves hundreds of youngsters from clubs all over Ireland - both boys and girls - was played at GAA grounds throughout the Royal County as well as venues in Louth and Down today.

Walterstown was one of those locations with teams from Ardboe O'Donovan Rossa (Tyrone), Clann Eireann (Armagh), Claregalway (Galway) and Southern Gaels (Kerry) involved with local sides from St Patrick's, Skryne and of course Walterstown.

Work had taken place on the Walterstown facilities all week with club members out with their paint brushes to ensure the venue looked well in the sun for the invasion from both north and south.

Those involved with the Clann Eireann and and Southern Gaels clubs were due to stay with host families in the Walterstown area over the course of the weekend.

The Feile is a demonstration of the community spirit within the GAA.

While there were some concerns about the high temperatures that prevailed the games went ahead with each match lasting for 30 minutes with "substitution breaks" in between to allow teams make changes helping the players to cope with the conditions.
