Big win for Meath in Wee County

After making a slow start Meath switched on the after-burners to defeat Louth by 4-14 to 0-12 in the Leinster MFC at Drogheda tonight.

The Royal County side were down 0-1 to 0-6 after 20 minutes but when Cian McBride powered his way through for a goal on 23 minutes Meath upped their game with Luke Kelly also finding the net soon after.

Those goals helped to give Meath a 2-4 to 0-7 lead at the break and they all but wrapped up victory with two more quick-fire goals in the second-half from Matthew Costello and Luke Mitchell.

There were a number of outstanding performances from Meath players with Costello ending up with 1-4 while the impressive Mitchell hit 1-5, four of his points coming from frees. Ryan Walsh topscored for Louth but the home side just couldn't match Meath's pace and swift passing.

The victory all but ensured Joe Treanor's team a place in the semi-finals with Offaly to play in the next round. The impressive Darragh Swaine, Bryan McCormack, Brian O'Hanlon and Joe Moore were others to contribute points to Meath's fruitful evening.
