Meath ladies bidding for NFL title

Meath ladies will be bidding to claim some silverware in Monday's Ladies NFL Div 3 final against Wexford at St Brendan's Park, Birr, 4pm.

After suffering relegation to Div 3 a couple of years ago Meath Ladies football was at an all-time low and they were regraded to intermediate for the championship.

That bottom sunk even lower when they struggled to get a win in Div 3 last year, but after a few years of managerial unrest they now seem to have Eamonn Murray leading the way along with Paul Garrigan, Paddy Dowling and Michelle Grimes.

Meath have won the 2017 Leinster IFC title with victory over Wexford in Dr Cullen Park, and have secured their place in the NFL Div 3 final with relative ease.

There were a few slip ups in the group stages of the league, most notably losing out to Roscommon, but they picked up the wins necessary to ensure a place in the semi-finals and now the final.

Meath lost to Wexford in the league stages of Div 3. They endured a late collapse that day when a sin-binning for Niamh Lister proved costly and they shipped a few goals.

“We have a lot over very talented players coming through the ranks in Meath and they need to be playing football at a higher standard than Div 3. We had a huge win over Down in the semi-final, but that will count for nothing if we don't beat Wexford,” said the manager.
