Tragedy in Mullingar as Meath man dies in workplace accident

A Meath man has died in a workplace accident in Mullingar.

The accident happened shortly before 9am this morning when girders were being unloaded at the site of the former Heiton Buckley facility in Lough Sheever Business Park, Castlepollard Road, Mullingar. The deceased is understood to be from the Athboy area.

According to gardai, the 43-year old man,  died in a work place accident  at approximately 8.50am. Gardaí and ambulance services attended the scene. He was taken by ambulance to Mullingar Hospital where he later died from his injuries. 

A spokesperson for the Health and Safety Authority said this afternoon that there are two inspectors on site investigating the cause of the accident, which happened at what he described as a "construction site".
