High drama at Fairyhouse

Countdown is on to the Winter Festival at Fairyhouse

The momentum continues to build for the eagerly-awaited two-day Fairyhouse Winter Festival on Saturday 2nd and Sunday 3rd December next.
The action will start on Saturday 2nd December with the highlight on day one in the form of a €50,000 Grade B Handicap Chase and track manager Peter Roe is looking forward to the big weekend.
“The strength and depth of entries for our mid-season highlight fixture once again is a testament as to how this meeting has developed,” he commented.
Sunday's card will see the three quality races sponsored by Bar One Racing with the Grade 1 Bar One Racing Hatton’s Grace Hurdle a key contest.
Also likely to provide some indicators for the rest of the season is the Grade 1 Bar One Racing Drinmore Novice Chase.
Local enthusiasts had an opportunity for some pre-December Fairyhouse action on Wednesday of last week and they certainly had plenty to cheer about as top trainer Gordon Elliott recorded a treble.

Elliott maintained his remarkable run of success with that hat-trick and he shared two of them with talented young jockey Jack Kennedy who got off the mark for the afternoon when taking the beginners’ chase on 2/1 shot Woods Well.
Elliott and Kennedy followed up in the novice hurdle with 4/5 favourite Monkshood and then the trainer teamed up with former champion jockey Davy Russell to land
the mares’ maiden hurdle with 15/8 favourite Osco Mosco.

That was the first part of a double for Russell who had a second winner when he partnered the Henry De Bromhead-trained Mind’s Eye, a 3/1 co-favourite, to success in the maiden hurdle.

Later in the week, Elliott went on to complete a third consecutive Irish century of winners and he will surely be a man worth following over the two days of the Fairyhouse Winter Festival next week.
Also scheduled for Fairyhouse on Sunday 3rd December is the hugely popular Meath GAA raceday which, according to sources close to the Co Board, is already sold out.
