Meath GAA supporters of the football and hurling teams will have plenty of early season action to relish in the months ahead.

The GAA's 2018 Master Fixtures plan was released today and it aims to ensure that as much of April as possible will be kept free for clubs. 

There are more “double” weekends in the leagues than before (four in total) and the leagues are starting in the last weekend in January (normally, the football league would start on the first week in February; the hurling on the second week).

With the O'Byrne Cup set to start in December and continuing into January with the Walsh Cup, suporters will have a packed January, February and March before the focus turns to club championship action in April.

Páirc Tailteann will host a full house for a NFL and NHL double header on Sunday 4th March when the hurlers face face Carlow and 1pm and the footballers face Cork at 3pm, both fifth round ties - the final round for the hurlers.

April will be free for club action and already plans are in the pipeline for the start of the 2018 Keegan Cup with the possible dates likely to be discussed at next Monday night's Co Board meeting at Dunganny.
