Matthew Gilsenan.

Matthew Gilsenan sings solo in Navan at weekend

Following on from his successful, sold out, solo concert in Kells this summer, and recent guest performance at RTE Culture Night in Dublin Castle, Matthew Gilsenan is delighted to be performing with his band at Solstice Arts Centre in Navan, this Saturday 21st October at 8.00 p.m.

Matthew is grabbing the opportunity of performing his new solo show, close to home, before hitting the road again with The Celtic Tenors, to Germany, Canada and America, all before Christmas.

Born and raised in Moynalty, County Meath, music has been in his bones from an early age, he was initially taught to sing by a nun in the Convent of Mercy in Kells.  From there, he went on to study engineering in UCD, and worked as one in the UK and USA.

But the allure of music has never left him, and back in 1997, he decided to take a six month break from his engineering career, and ‘get the music out of my system. Six months should do it, I thought’, says Gilsenan.  Nearly two decades later, and 11 albums under his belt with the global success that is The Celtic Tenors, Gilsenan feels that he is ready to start branching out on his own.

His fans can expect a wide range of genres, where audience members will hear songs and arias from grand opera, to Dylan, Cohen and other legends of the twentieth Century and before.  Matthew says ‘I am so excited to be doing my first solo theatre show.  I have worked here with The Celtic Tenors, and can’t wait to tread the boards there again, this time, with my own show’.
