Sam at 1967 anniversary

The 50th anniversary of Meath's 1967 All-Ireland final win against Cork was marked last night at a glittering event at Knigntsbrook in Trim.

The 1967 All-Ireland winning capttain Peter Darby got the evening off to an ideal start when he paraded into the function room with the Sam Maguire Cup (see short video clip attached).

Former Leinster Council chairman John Horan, the GAA President-elect following this year's 2017 Annual Congress in Croke Park, was a special guest and made the point that he had some Meath connections through his wife.

He also added that one of the players he admired most from that era (1967) was none other than Pat 'Red' Collier.

MC for the evening was Brendan Cummins who conducted and Sunday Game analysis of the 1967 final with Colm O'Rourke who was also a special guest - the analysis was based on the highlights that were shown on the big screen (in black and white) from the 1967 final.

Members of the Cork panel were also represented and other interviews conducted included Mattie Kerrigan, Pat Reynolds, Mick Mellett, Pat 'Red' Collier.

See next edition of Meath Chronicle for more details and photographs from the big event.
