Trim can edge O'Mahonys

The JHC final will take place at Pairc Tailteann on Saturday with Trim tipped to gain revenge on Navan O’Mahonys.

The sides met in the opening round of the group stages of the championship back in June with O’Mahonys claiming a narrow 1-10 to 1-9 win in Dunderry.

The Navan men went on to top the group with five wins while Trim recovered to beat Clann na nGael, Na Fianna and Kildalkey before receiving a walkover from Wolfe Tones.

O’Mahonys maintained their impressive group stage form in the semi-final where the saw off Group A runners-up Ratoath by 1-14 to 1-11, but it is Trim’s impressive 3-13 to 1-11 semi-final win over Killyon that suggests they might have the edge on Saturday.

Inspired by players with plenty of senior experience, which includes former Meath stars Eimhin Lynam and Joey Toole, Trim stunned Killyon with a devastating display and if they can maintain that form then O’Mahonys might find them too hot to handle.

Key to any Trim victory will be the outstanding free-taking of Toole, while the presence of Leighton Massey on the edge of the square will also cause the O’Mahonys defence plenty of concern.

Like their group meeting three months ago, this final is expected to be another tight affair, but Trim’s greater experience and goal threat might be enough to get them over the line. Verdict - Trim

DIV 2 HC FINAL

The two teams that finished third in their respective JHC groups will contest Friday night’s Div 2 HC final at Ashbourne 7.30pm and with plenty of players with senior experience on board, Kildalkey’s thirds are tipped to edge out Kiltale’s third string. Verdict - Kildalkey.
