Bective and Curraha draw in IFC

Battling Bective salvaged a vital IFC point tonight in Skryne when they earned a 1-11 each draw with Curraha who had the injured James McEntee watching from the sideline.

There was speculation ahead of the game that Curraha could be somewhat depleted arising out of suspensions that might have been imposed following a third round tussle with Ballinabrackey.

There wasn't an abundance of information readily available, but it is understood that no suspensions were imposed.

The opening half was a dour sort of encounter with Bective establishing a 1-5 to 0-5 interval advantage with the goal, a real opportunist effort from Sean Keating in the 14th minute the only illuminating aspect of that first 30 minutes.

Three Paul McCabe points and a brace from Keating sustained a slow-buring Bective side that tallied six wides, a number equalled by Curraha who were ponderous when they moved the ball forward – it was also moved back quite frequently also.

Two points each from David Toner and Conor Moriarty and one by David Coyle kept the Curraha supporters interested.

The second-half was a high-tempo affair with Curraha blitzing Bective in the early exchanges as Shane Breslin made a smart save at the expense of a '45' that Moriarty converted as he claimed 1-2.

Toner also added an excellent point for a 1-8 to 1-5 advantage for Curraha..

Bective's response to the concession of the goal was excellent with midfielder Paul Lyness (two) and James Davis splitting the posts for parity (1-8 each) by the three-quarter stage.

Bective remained in the ascendancy and added points through Marty Mulhall, Keating and substitute Brian Cantwell, but Sean Keogh, Brian Murphy and Moriarty (free) drew the sides level.

Curraha had a late chance for a winning point from a '45' that was short and then they had claims for a close-range free waved away by referee Jack Gordon.
