Busy schedule at RDS for Carton team

The Kilcloon-based Carton Equestrian Centre will have three horses in action at the prestigious Dublin Horse Show this week.

Owned by Owen Kavanagh and his son Sean, the three horses will also be joined by two of the riding school ponies for the kids zone at the RDS where pony rides will be available each day for the general public and budding showjumping enthusiasts. The kids zone will be located behind the main ring.

The first qualifying spot for the RDS was gained by Stephen Holland, a long-time riding school customer and now staff member at Carton.
He qualified the horse 'Be Dignified' last May at Barnadown which was the first of four regional qualifiers and he was one of the top seven from 120 starters.

Holland will compete in the four-year old national young horse jumping class on Wednesday and Friday in the Simmonscourt arena.

Be Dignified stands 17 hands and is owned by Rachel Hughes from Kilcock.
The other two horses qualified at separate shows during June.

Sean Kavanagh booked his ticket at Maryville Stables in Cork where the mare 'Riverfield Legend' earned a ticket for the five-year-old year old national young horse jumping class with a fifth place finish out of 90 with three clear rounds.

The well-bred mare mare is owned by 83-year-old James Farrell from Kells who has been a long time supporter and breeder.
Holland booked his second qualifier at Tullyish (Armagh) and will be competing in the eventing section in the main arena with the mare 'Craddenstown Vechta's Star' which is owned by Gerry Murtagh from Raharney, a top farrier.
