Meath's Matthew Costello looks at his options in tonight's u-17 win over Carlow.

Meath's firepower too much for Carlow

It was Meath all the way as they produced some excellent football to push aside the challenge of Carlow by 2-19 to 0-4 in the Leinster Special u-17 FC at Pairc Tailteann this evening.

This was comfortable for Ronan Kearns' side as they took a early grip on the game and at the interval they were already well on the way to victory when they led 0-9 to 0-2.

Carlow's cause wasn't helped by the dismissal of their midfielder Conor Doyle after 50 minutes. From then on they really struggled to contain a lively Meath attack in which Na Fianna's Shane Walsh, in particular, was impressive.

Walsh ended up with 2-5 both his goals neatly taken following excellent approach work by Meath. Jordan Morris from Nobber was another who impressed for the home side as he fired over eight points, five from play, before he was withdrawn near the end.

Matthew Costello (three), Oran Smullan, Aaron Lynch and Liam Byrne were others to split the posts for Meath. Midfielders Colm Doherty and Fergal Waters worked hard for Meath at midfield while captain Byrne showed the way with a very enterprising display as his team marched to the last four.Â
