Navan tennis players make bright start to summer season

Players representing Navan Tennis Club have made an encouraging start to the summer season with notable victories in a number of competitions. 

Navan kicked started the season with an excellent win over Fitzwilliam Lawn Tennis club, in the Leinster Charity Mixed Doubles tournament. 
Encouraged by the level of performane in that event Navan TC has entered two ladies teams in the Dublin Summer League and three mens teams. 
The ladies first team, class three, play their opening match against Clontarf this Wednesday, 10th May. 
The team is: Lorna Greally (first singles), Darina O'Shea (second singles), Cliodhna McManus (third singles), Geraldone Boyle and Finola Owens (first doubles), Sara Forristal and Karol Mulvey (captain) second doubles.
The Navan ladies second team play in class four and they took on Celbridge in their match last week. 
The team was: Louise Kiernan-Gaughran (first singles), Carol Heaney (second singles), Eleanor Murchant (third singles), Stella Dwyer and Hilary Burke (captain) (first doubles), Valerie Casserly and Loraine McAleese (second doubles).

The Navan men's first team plays in class three, with their opening match on Friday, 12th May against Elm Park, Dublin. 
The team captain is Maurice Collins.
The Navan men's second team plays in class five. The team captain is Jim Dwyer.
The third team plays class seven and the team captain is Rory Gahan.


RESULTS 
The Navan second ladies team plays in class four and they defeated Celbridge 3-2 in Navan last week with victories recorded by Stella Dwyer and Hilary Burke (captain) while Valerie Casserley and Loraine McAleese won their doubles. 
Carol Heaney had an excellent win in a very tough second singles. Both Louise Kiernan-Gaughran and Eleanor Murchant lost narrowly. 
The Navan first men's, class three, lost narrowly to Ashbrook, Dublin, 2-3. 
The second men's team, class 5 defeated Donnybrook 3-2 in an excellent contest.

The men's third team, class seven, were victorious over Westwood, Clontarf, 3-2.
