Mulligan three over after opening Junior Invitational round at Sage Valley

Playing for the first time in the Junior Invitational young Meath golfer Thomas Mulligan is currently three over after his first round at the par 72 Sage Valley course just a few hours ago.

The joint-leaders are on five under and the second round continues tomorrow.

Mulligan went into the competition with a 2016 record that included a second place finish in the Irish Boys Amateur Open Championship and Top 10 wins at the Irish Amateur Close Championship and the Peter McEvoy Trophy.

Thomas was a 2015 member of the British & Irish Jacques Leglise boys team.

He is coached by Black Bush professional Shane O''Grady and will take up a golf scholarship in the USA later this year.

The Junior Invitational welcomes the very best junior golfers from around the world to Sage Valley Golf Club in Graniteville, South Carolina.

Each year, at the end of a week of celebration and three days of intense competition, one of the players will earn the prestigious championship title.
