Navan set for first All-Ireland u-20 Cup final

Navan RFC players and supporters will travel to Templeville Road in Dublin this Sunday for the final of the Fraser McMullen Cup where they will tackle Lansdowne in the decider of what is now a prestigious under-20 competition.

Lansdowne last won the trophy in 2011 and more recently appeared in the 2013 and 2015 deciders while Navan will be appearing in their first final.

The Lansdowne u-20s proved too strong when they hosted Navan in their JP Fanagan Premier 1 League clash on the Aviva Stadium's back pitch in February winning by 53-23.

In the first round before Christmas at Balreask Old, Navan lost 10-26.

However, it's also worth pointing out that Navan also lost twice to Dublin University in the JP Fanagan Premier 1 League (23-41) in Navan's first game at the grade and 24-31 second time around, yet Navan won last week's semi-final impressively by 42 - 31 which suggests the Navan players have benefited from a season in the top grade.
