McQuillan helps Republic of Ireland to victory

Amanda McQuillan was in fine form for the Republic of Ireland in the UEFA Women's Under-19 Championship Elite Round against Ukraine in Limerick yesterday where she kept her goal intact in a 2-0 victory.

Ukraine had conceded five goals in their Elite Round opener against Finland and were put under pressure from the off and it only took Ireland 40 seconds to pull ahead.

Good work in midfield played Dearbhaile Beirne in down the left and her cross was finished by Lucy McCartan with Saoirse Noonan adding a second goal near the end.

The Republic of Ireland lost the opening game against Scotland on Tuesday evening on a 2-1 scoreline with Scorland netting in added time at the end of the second-half.

First choice goalkeeper Amanda McQuillan has Meath girl Naoisha McAloon as her cover in the panel.
