Dunshaughlin student in action for Republic of Ireland Schools

Dunshaughlin Community College student Neill Byrne was in action last night for the Republic of Ireland Schools against Scotland in the Centenary Shield with the game played at Renfrew FC.

The Renfrew club was established in 1912 and is a member of Scottish Junior Football Association and compete in the Central League First Division.

Last night the Republic of Ireland’s winning streak came to an end against the hosts who scored a 1-0 victory with a goal after 10 minutes.

The Irish lads went into this game on the back of wins against Wales and Northern Ireland which saw them sit top of the leaderboard while
Scotland were finishing their campaign.

Three games remain in the Shield -

Wales host Northern Ireland in Cardiff next Wednesday and N Ireland is now re-energised after a magnificent 4-1 victory away to England last month as
well as a late winner with Scotland to see them on six points with the Republic and Scotland now.

The Welsh lost against Scotland and the Republic and host reigning champions England in the final game of the series on April 21 in Bristol.

The Republic of Ireland manager Paddy O'Reilly, who is also the manager of Trim Celtic in the NEFL, and his players will have a quick turnaround when they face England next Thursday in Home Farm FC 7pm kick-off.
