Now's the time to think about growing some smashing pumpkins!

Pumpkin enthusiasts keen to grow their own half-tonne pumpkin should come along to the Irish Military Museum, Collon at 1pm on Saturday where Giant Pumpkins Ireland is hosting its spring growers seminar.
Expert growers will share their knowledge and organiser Micheal Byrne, who last year broke the Irish record for the heaviest pumpkin with his staggering 1,166lb fruit, will give an all-inclusive 'how to' presentation.

This is Giant Pumpkins Ireland's inaugural spring growers seminar and the itinerary will also include seed swapping and hands on skills tutorials. Admission is €10. To book a place email giantpumpkinsireland@gmail.com.
Micheal from Togher, Louth, and cousin Patrick Sullivan from Collon have shared a pumpkin rivalry since they were kids. Last October, they organised a giant pumpkin weigh off where Micheal's weighed in at a hefty 1,166lbs beating off Patrick's 917lb pumpkin in the Atlantic Giant class. There were also competitions for standard field pumpkins.
