Nelson set for Lordship

Navan O'Mahonys will have to appoint a new manager to replace Keegan Cup-winning boss Davy Nelson for the senior football team for 2017.

Nelson, who guided O'Mahonys to Keegan Cup success most recently in 2014 and 2015 will take over the reins at Louth senior club St Patrick's, Lordship.

Last week Louth GAA Co Board appointed Meath's All-Ireland u-21 B HC-winning manager Philip O'Brien and selector Ken McKenna as joint managers of the Louth hurling team for 2017.

Current St Colmcille's manager Colm Nally will also take up a role with the Louth senior football team for 2017.

St Patrick's commented on Twitter this evening:

The club are delighted to announce David Nelson from Navan O'Mahonys club as our new senior team manager for 2017. We look forward to working with David and the whole management team for the year ahead.

Other Meath senior football clubs that were seeking new managers in recent weeks included Wolfe Tones and Rathkenny.

However, Wolfe Tones have re-appointed former Keegan Cup-winning boss Tony Kearney as a replacement for Gordon Ward.

Kearney was in charge of Meath Hill for the last two years after a spell with Nobber and a spell with St Fechin's in Louth.
