Tony Martin misses big Leopardstown winner

Trainer Tony Martin landed another big race at the weekend when Golden Spear landed the €100,000 Tote November Handicap as the 2016 flat season came to a close at Leopardstown on Saturday.

Conor Hoban guided the 7/1 shot to a narrow success over British raider Nakeeta to add to the success that the trainer enjoyed with the big race Ebor win with Heartbreak City earlier this year.

Martin missed the race at Leopardstown as he is in Australia to supervise the Melbourne Cup bid of Heartbreak City in the early housr of Tuesday morning (Irish time).

Martin's globetrotting could continue into December as he has entered Laganore for both the Hong Kong Cup and Hong Kong Vase. Heartbreak City could also run in the Hong Kong Vase.

Also at Leopardstown on Saturday there was a winner for Moynalty jockey Declan McDonogh.

Sovereign Debt, trained in Britain by David Nicholls, recorded his third success on this side of the Irish Sea when landing the Listed Knockaire Stakes.

The UK challenger was winning the race for the second year and was ridden by McDonogh who was enjoying his 51st winner of the season.
