Lauryn Grier in GAA action for Meath

Meath girl features in Republic win against Wales tonight

NEC and Kentstown Rovers player Lauryn Grier played for the Republic of Ireland u-16 girls tonight in a 2-0 win against the Wales u-17 side at Dragon Park, Newport.

She becomes the fifth player from the 2014 Under-14 NEC Gaynor Cup squad to play international football and will have another chance to feature in the second game when the sides meet again on Sunday.

Grier also plays Gaelic football for Simonstown and Meath and was introduced as a substitute in tonight's victory.

Irish coach Sharon Boyle was delighted with her side who produced an excellent display against a side a year older.

'We did very well. Every player did their job and we were delighted with them. They did the work we asked them to do,' said Boyle.

'We played the ball around very well. Megan Mackey our captain was a true leader and Tiegan Ruddy was also phenomenal at centre-back.

'The girls stood up really well against a strong side and particularly when you consider that they were giving away a year. We'll look to recover and see how we are for Sunday's game,' she added.
