Dramatic recovery as Meath earn draw

Andy Tormey's late point gave Meath a 2-12 to 2-11 NFL Div 2B lead as the clock ticked into three minutes added time against Derry at Owenbeg today in a fantastic performance by the Royal County, but it ended 2-12 each.

A late Ryan Bell point for Derry earned a draw after Conor McGill was penalised and that was the eighth draw bewteen the sides, but the relegation issue will not be resolved until the final round next week when Meath travel to play Laois.

Conor McHugh produced two excellent first-half saves as Meath took a fortunaate 2-4 to 1-6 interval lead with goals from Mickey Newman and Cillian O'Sullivan with Gavin McWilliams finding the net for hosts Derry.

Meath manager Mick O'Dowd gave a debut to Dunboyne's Seamus Lavin, but he was replaced after 22 minutes by Darragh Smyth while Dalton McDonagh replaced Darragh Lenihan in that opening half.

McWilliams grabbed an early second-half goal for Derry as they forged into a 2-10 to 2-6 advantage by the end of the third-quarter.

Alan Douglas came in for Cathal Finn in the final quarter as Meath closed the gap to three points and then got back on level terms at 2-11 each with Dalton McDonagh's score drawing the sides level.
