Blackhall Gaels member Emma Fahy Whelan mourned

Blackhall Gaels camogie player and footballer Emma Fahy Whelan has died, having suffered from cancer.

She led Blackhall to Meath junior football championship honours in 2001, with the club going on to graduate to intermediate and senior level, reaching the county senior final in 2003.

She was a member of the Blackhall Gaels team that beat Kilmessan in the Meath senior camogie championship final in 2008.

After being diagnosed, she organised fundraiders for cancer charities, including St Luke's Hospital.

Blackhall Gaels GAA Club has paid tribute, saying it is shocked and numbed by the untimely passing of their club member and team mate.

They said Emma was an influential figure both on and off the field.

'A true Gael, she met her illness with the same bravery she took to the field with. A leader on the field and mentor to our younger players, she was a role model for all.

Emma was the backbone of both the camogie and ladies football teams in Blackhall for many years and will be missed by all her clubmates.
We are truly proud of Emma and thankful for the lasting memory we will carry.

'Our thoughts and prayers are with her husband Sean and daughters Shauna and Sophie. We also offer our deepest condolences to the Fahy family, her mother Breda, father Joe and brothers Owen, Brendan and Joseph, to the Whelan family and Emma's large circle of friends.'

Emma is reposing at her residence today, Wednesday, from 3pm to 8pm, with removal on Thursday morning at 10.30am to The Church of Christ The King, Cortown arriving for Funeral Liturgy at 11am followed by burial in Cortown Cemetery.
