Meath survive 12-point turnaround

Meath almost produced another 'snatching defeat from the jaws of victory' performamce at Pearse Park in Galway this afternoon when they squandered a nine-point half-time lead and trailed by three points late in the second-half before they salvaged a draw.

Last week there was a 15-point turnaround as Meath lost to Cavan after leading by eight at the break, this week it was a 12-point turnaround, but late scores from Graham Reilly, Eamon Wallace and substitute Cian O'Brien got a draw for manager Mick O'Dowd.

However, just like last week, Meath had a player sent-off in injury-time, but on this occasion it was a second yelow card for Graham Reilly and a not a straight red as happened last week.

Wind-assisted Meath were well worth a 1-8 to 0-2 interval lead with early points from Reilly (two), Sean Tobin, Wallace and Mickey Newman before Damien Comer, who was black-carded before the break, opening Galway's account in the 20th minute while Eddie Hoare also sent over.

Meath lost Donal Keogan to a black card, but they also found the net in the 32nd minute through Newman while the remaining first-half points came from Donal Lenihan, Tobin and Newman.

After the resumption Galway managed 13 of the enxt 14 points with Wallace on the mark for Meath who had to rely on that late flourish of points to earnn what could yet be a vital point.
