Gary Rogers on losing side in Cork opener

Bohermeen man and Meath Sportsperson of the Year Gary Rogers was in action today for Dundalk in the President's Cup final in what has become the curtainraiser to the start of the League of Ireland season next weekend.

There was no joy for Rogers on this occasion as Cork City got the better of their rivals with a 2-0 win at Turner’s Cross.

Goals in either half from Gavan Holohan and Sean Maguire saw the Leesiders beat their rivals for the first time in 11 attempts in front of a crowd of 1,850.

The real action will kick-off next weekend with Dundalk set to face Bray Wanderers next Saturday at 7.30pm in the Carisle Grounds
