'Pirates of Penzance' on Trim stage this week

Trim's highly acclaimed musical society, which holds the title of ‘Best Musical Society’ in Ireland and winners of ‘Best Overall Musical’ in the country, awarded in June 2015 by AIMS, has much more to sing about.
‘The Pirates Of Penzance’ celebrates a 30th musical production by Trim Musical Society. The much loved comic musical masterpiece which will be staged in Scoil Mhuire Hall Trim from Tuesday 16th February to Saturday 20th, at 8pm nightly, with a modern day take on the great works of Gilbert and Sullivan.
A musical feast with a story set on a beach in Cornwall following a young Frederick (Kevin Fagan) who is mistakenly apprenticed to a band of pirates by his Nursemaid Ruth (Siobhan Fawsitt) and so the adventures begin. The band of pirates is led by the Pirate King (Craig Regan) with second-in-command, Samuel (Ian Rowntree) who reach the Cornish coast where they come upon a bevy of beauties, General Stanley’s (Colin Flynn) daughters (Siobhan McAlleese, Emma Stowe, Megan Pottinger) and a cast of daughters.
The General’s favourite daughter, Mabel (Jessica Hackett) falls in love with Frederick. Mabel entrusts the Sergeant of Police (Sean Fox) to arrest the Pirates leaving herself and Frederick to live happily ever after.
Trim boasts some of the finest musical performers in Ireland many awarded and Nominated by AIMS over the last 31 years the cream of which will be seen in Pirates of Penzance. Tony Finnegan, maestro of Gilbert and Sullivan as director, Aisling Toher as choreographer and Caitriona Ni Threasaign as musical director make the production a must see.
The much loved Pirates is a showcase of brilliant humour and wit and features loads of well known songs. ‘Poor Wandering One’,’ I am a Pirate King’, ‘Model of a Modern Major General’ and more to have you sing along. Prepare to be “swashbuckled” by an amazing cast of pirates, daughters, policemen, an ageing major general, a true English “Bobby” and faces well known to audiences.
