Gary Rogers takes Meath Sportsperson of the Year award

Bohermeen man Gary Rogers was last night named Meath Sportsperson of the Year at the ninth annual Meath Sports Awards ceremony organised by the Meath Chronicle and Cusack Hotel Group and hosted at the impressive Knightsbrook Hotel and Spa.

Some 300 guests attened the popular event and Gary was announced as the winner by Celtic Media Group CEO Frank Mulrennan from a high-quality list of monthly winners that included some of the top sporting talent in the county.

The monthly winners from which the overall winner is selected included Natalya Coyle, Sara Treacy, Eddie Lynam, Paul Carberry, Kevin McGrath, Alan Bonner, Tony Martin, Stephen Daly, Davy Nelson, Darragh Rennicks and the three Special Olympics athletes from Meath who won medals at last year's summer games – Liam Foley, Francis Power and Rosie O'Reilly.

Gary Rogers received a standing ovation from the guests and recalled some of the highlights of 2015 in an interview with MC Evanne Ni Chuilinn.

Gary completed a double in 2015 as he continued to enhance his reputation as the best goalkeeper in the country.

The Meath man helped Dundalk to the Airtricity League of Ireland Premier title and the FAI Cup following a memorable campaign for the Lilywhites.

It was only the second time a club outside Dublin managed to win back-to-back top-flight League of Ireland titles. The next target for Gary is to maintain his success rate with Dundalk in 2016 and to help the Louth side to make it through to the group stages of the Champions League.

He won the top award at the Soccer Wriers' Association of Ireland preentations a few weeks ago also.
