Focus on local darts

The action resumed in the Navan & District Darts League on Monday night with the first series of games after the teams completed the qualifying pahse for Div 1 and Div 2 in the first series.

Five teams will compete for the Div 1 title and the Old Bridge Inn A team got off to a flyer with a 6-0 victory against the Old Bridge Inn B team.

The A team claimed the bragging rights. The opening game featured Ronan Barron against Harry Dowdall and the contest produced some good darts.

It was 1-1 after two games, but Barron took the third game and then went on to seal victory when he took out 58 for a 3-1 verdict.

Noel Mulhall and Tommy Collins were next up and the former soccer referee in the Meath & District League took the first game. He eventually took the second when he took out mad house double one.

Collins got back into contention in the third game, but Mulhall recovered and took out 30 in the fourth for a 3-1 win.

Stephen Kells junior negotiated Johnno McCabe (3-2) and John McLoughlin recovered from a first game reversal to get the better of Anto McCabe. McLoughlin prevailed by 3-1 with a 40 checkout the highlight.

Pat McGowan showed his ability with a 3-0 win against Martin Dowdall and in the final contest of the night, Stephen Kells got the better of Gerry Fagan to complete the 6-0 scoreline.

That will leave the Old Bridge Inn A players in a buoyant mood as they prepare for the challenging trip to the Round O next Monday night for what should be a cracker, according to well-informed sources.

The manager of the Old Bridge Inn B team has scheduled extra training this week ahead of the visit of Teach na Teamhrach next Monday night.

However, Teach na Teamhrach will be in no mood to concede ground after they made a good start also with a 4-2 victory against The Lantern.

The Lantern team may also have time to do some extra training as they have a bye next Monday night.

It was a bad Monday for The Lantern as the B team also lost (1-5) to Lynch’s, Slane in Div 2 while Maguire’s, Kentstown had a good away win at Garlow Cross against Tara na Rí.
