Cromwell plunders Aintree opener

Meath trainer Gavin Cromwell had a nice winner in the opening race at Aintree this afternoon when Jer's Girl kept her unbeaten record over hurdles with a 10-length victory in the Betfred Remembers Howard Kendall Fillies Juvenile Hurdle.

Two runs on the flat at Sligo and Navan this year were followed by a debut win over the minor obstacles at Limerick with Meath jockey Ger Fox on board at the beginning of November.

The filly made all the running today as Richard Johnson sent her to the front from the outset.

The Alan King-trained duo - Mystery Code and Forgiving Glance flattered in the straight, but Jer's Girl had all the answers.

The Knight Frank Juvenile Hurdle at Leopardstown on St Stephen's Day is a likely next target.

The dam, African Scene (1996) was trained by Tom McCourt and ran five times as a three-year-old without making the frame.

Jer's Girl has now been given a quote of 25/1 by Boylesports for the Triumph Hurdle at Cheltenham next March.
