Smash and grab raid at pirc tailteann

Clann na nGael looked set to suffer heartache in this IHC final replay at Pairc Tailteann on Saturday evening, but they somehow managed to conjure up two goals in the dying minutes to deny Wolfe Tones and claim a 2-7 to 0-11 victory.

The goals arrived from substitute Pat Shore and then a scrambled effort from which Martin Keogh claimed the plaudits.

The Tones launched a late survival bid, but Clann na nGael brought everyone back to defend and Eanna Harrington’s drive was comfortably cleared to spark wild celebrations amongst the green and gold ranks.

Clann na nGael also got out of jail in the first game with Aaron Ennis sending over a late equalising point to force the replay.

RUMOURS

The celebrations continued late into the night in Athboy and one rumour that circulated, according to an anonymous source, around closing time last night was that the local Gardai had set up checkpoints on all exit roads out of Athboy.

That prompted the question - Are they checking for drink driving?

However, the witty response was - 'No, they are looking for the lads who stole the Mick Leonard Cup from Wolfe Tones' - this story is unconfirmed at the moment?
