Wedding photos from 1916-1966 sought for commemoration project

Wedding photographs with a Meath connection taken between 1916 and 1966 are being sought for a 1916 commemoration project being undertaken by Ballivor Community Library.
The Meath Wedding Project 2016, co-ordinated by social historian Dr Jean Walker, is looking for wedding photographs from the 50-year period and will hold a ‘scanning morning’ in Navan Library on Saturday 19th September between 11am and 1pm where people can bring their photos, have them scanned and take them home with them again.
When Meath County Council put out a call for interested parties to make submissions for local projects for the year of commemoration; Ballivor Community Library put in a submission as a group for a Meath Wedding Photograph Project.
Dr Walker explained that the wedding doesn’t have to have taken place in Meath, which makes its inclusive of the Meath community now, wherever they are from.
Images can also be emailed to meathweddingproject2016@gmail.com. The idea is to have an online archive and, if they get enough photos in a particular area, to have a local exhibition. Details of where and when the photo took place and what the Meath connection is should also be submitted.

“The challenge for the different areas will be to try to get as close to 1916 as possible,” said Dr Walker. Further details are available on the Facebook page ‘Meath Wedding Photograph 2016 Project’.

Scanning dates are:

Navan - 19th September
