Deadline for pylon submissions today

The deadline for receipt of public submissions on EirGrid's plan for over 400 super structure Pylons across Meath and the North East has arrived, with today (Monday) the final day for objections.

Interest groups, community leaders and public representatives have been contributing to the process over a prolonged period and local politician is asking people to get their objections in with An Bord Pleanala before 5.30pm today (Monday) and support the NEPP campaign.

Cllr Shane Cassells, Fianna Fáil whip on Meath County Council, has called for members of the public to lodge their views with the planing body and come together for the protection of the landscape of County Meath.

While thousands have come out to show their support against the construction of these pylons in County Meath it is the documentation reviewed by An Bord Pleanala that will be the ultimate deciding factor in this Strategic Infrastructure Development file.

'Now is the time to make sure your voice is heard because once this deadline has passed then that is it,' stated Cllr Cassells.

'The North East Pylon Pressure Group has done astounding work in putting this campaign front and centre as a matter of immense importance to our society at large.

'It is the NEPP who have invested endless hours of research, time and money into fighting this massive organisation that is EirGrid.

'So as this deadline approaches it is now time to make sure that all of their work is supported by people lodging their objection to the construction of these pylons across County Meath.'

Cllr Cassells, who lodged his own personal objection with ABP last Thursday week, stated that the case made by NEPP showed that the cables could be under grounded.

'There is no doubt that this project can go ahead with the cables buried underground. The Taoiseach has determined that they can go underground in Mayo so why is the same solution not available to the people of County Meath?'
