Meath athletes bidding for glory

Elizabeth Morland, Andrew Coscoran, Harry Purcell, Rose Finnnegan and Kevin McGrath will all be involved in the quest for glory this week on athletics tracks thousands of miles apart.


Morland will be competing in Cali, Columbia in the World Youths Championships which take place this week from Wednesday 15th to Saturday 18th July.

Purcell and Coscoran will be running in the European Junior Championships in Eskilstuna, Sweden which get underway this Thursday and continue until Sunday.


Purcell, who is coached by Eamonn Coghlan and John Shields, won the junior men’s 800m at the Irish u-23 Track & Field Championships last week to secure his ticket for Sweden.


Coscoran, coached by Star of the Sea clubman Brendan Meade, is scheduled to run in the 1500m in Sweden.


Bohermeen AC pair Finnegan and McGrath will represent Ireland in the SIAB Schools International Athletics Board annual competition between Ireland, Scotland, England and Wales on Saturday. The event takes place in Grangemouth near Falkirk
