James scully bidding for world title tonight

Ratoath's James Scully was first into the pool for Ireland today at the Paralympic Swimming World Championships in Glasgow where he produced a season’s best time; 2:54.84, in the second heat of the Men’s 200m Freestyle (S5 class*) to qualify seventh fastest for tonight’s final at 7.06pm.

Scully will be hoping to go faster in tonight’s final (7.06pm) and challenge his personal best time and overall placing.

The S5 class is incredibly competitive and dominated by a leading quartet that includes reigning Paralympic and world champion Brazilian Daniel Dias, European champion Andrew Mullen of Great Britain, American Roy Perkins and Spaniard Sebastian Rodriguez.

These Championships are a key milestone on the road to Rio 2016 Paralympic Games qualification.

Swimmers who win gold and silver in their events earn automatic qualification slots for their country.
