Garda appeal following armed raid

Gardai are appealing for witnesses following an armed raid at the post office in the Daybreak store in Clonee yesterday morning.
At around 9.25am, a lone raider entered the Daybreak premises on Clonee’s Main Street carrying what appeared to be a handgun.
There were a number of customers in the premises at the time and he grabbed a woman and brought her towards the post office counter. He made a demand for cash but fled the scene empty handed after the panic alarm was activated.
The woman was not physically harmed. The culprit is described as being around 5ft 9” in height. He was wearing a black hoody, jeans and black runners with white soles.
He made his getaway in a blue BMW car and left in the direction of Blanchardstown. The car had been hijacked around 20 minutes earlier in the Blanchardstown area and was found burnt out an hour after the attempted robbery, also in the Blanchardstown area.
Gardai are appealing to anyone who witnessed the incident or who was in the vicinity of the Daybreak shop either prior to or immediately after the incident to contact Ashbourne Garda Station on 01 801 0600.
