Omahonys and st pats finish level in exciting contest

There was no shortage of exciting, high-quality football produced at Duleek this evening as St Patrick's picked up their first point in the SFC by earning a draw (1-12 to 0-15) with O'Mahonys.

The reigning champions looked to be on their way to their third successive victory in their campaign when they led going into the closing stages but a Neil O'Flaherty point brought the sides level.

Jake Regan fisted the ball against the St Pat's bar in the remaining minutes while Finian Everard had a last-gasp chance for the Stamullen side but he hit the ball wide.

There was no shortage of entertainment for the crowd with the teams level a number of times.

O'Mahonys might have been expected to win this game comfortably but they could never draw away from a spirited St Pat's side who had excellent displays from O'Flaherty and Donal Landy. Between them they contributed 1-10 to St Pat's tally.

O'Flaherty finished off a supeb St Pat's move by drilling the ball to the net on 12 minutes and that put them in front 1-2 to 0-4 for the first time in the game.

Alan Forde, Jake Regan, Shane Gillespie and Ruairi O Coilean were prominent on the scoring front for O'Mahonys.

At the interval St Pat's led 1-7 to 0-9 and while O'Mahonys hit back to regain the lead St Pat's refused to be subdued with O'Flaherty's late point from a free proving enough to earn the Stamullen side the draw.
