Cosmos striker Laurence Ivers in last evening's Challenge Cup final.

Cup finalists do it all again on tuesday

Navan Cosmos and Bellurgan Utd will renew acquintances when they meet again in the Kilmessan Shield semi-final on Tuesday night.

The teams played out an entertaining Challenge Cup final encounter last evening at Oriel Park with the Louth side winning 3-0.

Now they will meet up once more this time in the MDL on Tuesday, 8.0 when the Navan side will have a chance to exact revenge and save their season.

Cosmos were just a few weeks ago in the running for a treble - the Premier title, the Challenge Cup and the Kilmessan Shied.

However they lost out on the first two and now have only the Shield to aim for and save their season.

Manager Derek Coogan will be left the task of trying to raise his team's morale after last night's crushing disappointment at the home of Dundalk FC.

Cosmos struggled to find their best form in the wind and driving at Oriel. They conceded the opening goal of the game when in attempting to clear defender Johnny Quigley knocked the ball into his own net.

Further strikes from Keith Finnegan and Barry Carr sealed the trophy for Bellurgan.

The closest Cosmos came to getting a goal was late on when a Gary O'Dowd header rebounded off the post.

Laurence Ivers and Sean Conaty went close for Cosmos but Bellurgan Utd had a sharper cutting edge in attack and they went home with the trophy much to the delight of their big contingent of supporters.
