35 mobile phone while driving offences in navan on thursday

Thursday saw the fourth day of the Garda road traffic operation targeting offenders in and around Navan.

Gardai say it is disappointing that the message in relation to the danger of using a mobile phone while driving is not getting through with the highest number of detections (35) of the week recorded on Thursday. The penalty for this offence is three penalty points and a fine of €60.

The aim of the operation is to encourage improvement in the behaviour of all road users through enforcement.

The issue of road safety was also highlighted through the Garda Schools Programme at some of the local schools in Navan.

At the end of the fourth day the following number of offences were detected:
