Opportunity for meath hurlers to secure silverware

Martin Ennis has the opportunity to mark the end of his first phase as Meath hurling manager with a trophy when his side take on Wicklow in Sunday's Kehoe Cup final at Trim, 2.0.

If Ennis's troops can generate the kind of scoring rate they have demonstrated up to now they will surely have a great chance of securing a victory - and retaining the piece of silverware Meath won in Newbridge last year.

Some might consider the Kehoe Cup as merely a pre-season competition but it was the only piece of silverware won by Royal County senior teams in either football or hurling last year.

So far in this year's competition Meath have cranked up big scores against St Patrick's (1-16 to 0-12), Louth (7-18 to 2-8) and Longford (3-24 to 0-12).

Wicklow are also unbeaten going into the final. They drew with Fingal and defeated Kildare and Maynooth College.

Last year these two teams also met in the Kehoe Cup in Trim with the home team conjuring up a 2-17 to 0-5 victory.

Meath go into Sunday's game with almost a full-strength panel to select from but one player who will not be taking part is Alan Douglas.

The talented Trim player was sent off in last weeks win over Longford and misses out.

The Meath panel for Sunday is: Charlie Bird (Boardsmill); Karl Ennis (Longwood), Shane Brennan (Kilmessan), Anthony Donnelly (Kiltale); Ciaran Joyce (Trim), Padraig Keogh (Kildalkey), Sean McGrath (Dunboyne); Ger Foley (Killyon), Sean Heavey (Kildalkey); Patrick Conneely (Kildalkey), James Toher (Trim), Gary Kelly (Kildalkey); Adam Gannon (Killyon), Michael Dunne (Dunboyne), Willie McGrath (Moylagh), Conor Murray (Gaeil Colmcille), Cormac Reilly (Navan O'Mahonys), Shane Whitty (Blackhall Gaels), Stephen Morris (Blackhall Gaels), Anthony Healy (Longwood), Darren Reilly (Kilmessan), Jack Regan (Kiltale), Keith Keoghan (Killyon), Luke Martyn (Dunderry), Sean Quigley (Dunboyne), Eoin Marsh (Kilmessan), Killian O'Brien (Wolfe Tones), Damien Healy (Longwood),
