Heavey to lead royal county hurlers as new era gets underway

Kildalkey's Sean Heavey will captain the Meath senior hurling team for 2015 it has been announced.

Heavey also led the Royals last year and one of his first tasks as captain was to accept the Kehoe Cup following an extra-time victory over Kildare in the final at Newbridge.

Meath start their defence of the Kehoe Cup this Sunday when they take on St Patrick's Mater Dei at Pairc Tailteann, 12.15.

The game will be the curtain raiser for the Meath v Dublin O'Byrne Cup semi-final encounter in what is an attractive double header.

The clash with St Patrick's Mater Dei will also offer new manager Martin Ennis an opportunity to access his players in a competitive outing.

Heavey has been an integral part of the Meath set up for a number of years with his talent and full-on commitment one of the reasons why he established himself on the inter-county front.

Heavey also made a huge contribution to Kildalkey winning three successive titles in 2009, 2010 and 2011.

Admission to Pairc Tailteann on Sunday will be by ticket only. Tickets can be purchased from booths located outside the ground. Alternatively they can be purchased in advance at Super Valu outlets and in Jack Kiernan's, Navan.
